Walk 4 Life - search for walks in your local areaGardeningLearn to Grow Your own Last September we were successful in our bid for lottery funding from the People Powered Change, Big Lottery fund. This was to set up a horticulture project for local adults seeking employment and primary school children to learn how to grow their own fruit and vegetables. We will be involving local schools. We also want to hear from people seeking employment. The funding is enabling us to refurbish an old porta cabin for classroom activities and an on-site toilet. We have a dedicated plot set aside for project participants to gain practical experience and those involved in the project also have the benefit of free fruit and veg. If you live locally to Sale Moor, the project is open to any adult who is not in employment, including vulnerable adults. Our project will run on Mondays and weekends from 2 April 2012. There are plenty of places in and around Sale where you can spend your leisure time.
By following the River Mersey towpath you can travel for miles in both directions. For more info on the Water Park, water sports, the area, its wildlife and coming events being held by the wardens see the links at the top of this page. With the building of the M63 motor-way in 1972, the extraction of gravel at Sale left a large water-filled hole of about 35 acres. The lake and surrounding area was developed and in May 1980 it was opened as a Water Park. Trafford Leisure Services operate a programme of activities throughout the year for the public, groups and clubs. Details and conditions of use of the lake are available at the Water Sports Centre where everyone wishing to use the lake must report to. Facilities now include the Mersey Valley Visitor Centre, Trafford Water Sports Centre, restaurant, car park, nature reserves, events fields, childrens' playframe plus an extensive network of footpaths and bridle ways. Water facilities include sailing, water skiing, windsurfing, model boating and angling. Mersey Valley Visitor Centre Rifle Rd, Sale 0161 905 1100 Situated at the entrance to Sale Water Park (just off J6 M60), the Visitor Centre is and ideal place to find out anything you need to know about the Valley. CyclingCycling is well catered for in the area. The obvious place is the Water Park with its many tracks and paths. The Water park also links to Priory Woods, on Dane Rd. The banks of the River Mersey allow cyclists to travel for long distances in both directions i.e. to Chorlton and Didsbury and towards Stretford and beyond. Below are links to sites on cycle routes in the neighbouring areas. More links will be added as they are discovered. Knutsford

There are several riding schools in the Sale area. With traffic on the roads being so bad these days, riders are having to keep to bridle paths and suitable 'horse-friendly' areas.
